In one week, voters in Hawaii go to the polls to pick party nominations for the general election, but it's an open primary. Democrat-In-Name-Only Ed Case has actively sought the votes of Republicans, and he's getting big business dollars to do it. If you missed
this diary from Shliapnikov, it's worth mentioning some of the key points again.
The Realtors have spent over $600K in August alone to support their big-business DINO friend Case. The Chamber of Commerce is also spending dough for Case, as this diary from Skaje states. Seems groups who typically are better known for their support of Republicans are backing their guy in this race. They see the potental in his votes in the Senate, and the Lieberman replacement they'll need if Lamont wins.
In contrast, Akaka, a good progressive purveyor of peace, has the support of groups like labor unions, Progressive Democrats of Hawaii, and recently the Social Workers.
We know Case has a strategy for going for Republicans.
We know Case has a Lieberman-like voting record in the House, and at times is more conservative.
We know that Case supports Bush's war in Iraq, praised Rumsfeld's time at the Pentagon, and thinks the goings-on at Guantanamo are just fine.
I hope the voters of Hawaii know that too, and keep Dan Akaka in as their Senator. He's done a good job supporting Hawaii's workers, seniors, and veterans. Case, like the typical Republican he's more like, stands by big business over the little guy (and gal), and things this President we have is just dandy.
